REBILL01@ULKYVX.BITNET (Russell E. Billings) (07/15/88)
Hello, I have been working on a small VAX/VMS-Pascal based postnews program that seems to be working quite well for its size, but that leaves out a lot of features that real USENET sites have. Specifically, I can not work out/find the method used to post one file to two groups ("cross-posting"). Can one of you show me how it is properly done? The situation: My site is a BITNET site only. Our news comes in from UKMA over BITNET, where it is promptly (3 days maximum delay) placed into a text library, and forgotten. In early February, one of our people was shown how to post by using the internet gateways (at ucbvax), and SMTP. Soon after I learned how to do the same thing, I wrote my program as a method of bypassing "gMail" (gateway Mail), as the new version of gMail has some serious defects. My Problem: I have not been able to figure out how to format my mail to ucbvax so that I can cross-post. The normal address (example: news-software-b@ucbvax.berkeley.edu) does not allow for a single file to be appended to another group. What can I do to fix the problem, or should I continue to tell the people that I work with to just post it twice? ***************************** Please MAIL any answers to me, do not post them to any group. address: UUCP: {backbone}!psuvax1!ulkyvx.bitnet!rebill01 BITNET: REBILL01@ULKYVX.BITNET ***************************** Thanks, Russell Russell E.
