[news.software.b] What's "L4"

det@hawkmoon.MN.ORG (Derek E. Terveer) (09/05/88)

Whenever i see an unexpected "L" or "L*" coming out of some piece of software,
i always immediatly suspect an unitialized char pointer -- cause that is what
seems to be printed frequently in these cases... I'm not sure exactly why. I
suppose that it has to do with what the header blocks contain for malloced()
memory.

Close, but I suspect no cee-gar.

Check your "sys" file, and be sure the fields are all properly separated.
I suspect a "locally-posted-or-4-sites-downstream-or-less" restriction is
in the wrong field.

Oh Boy, looks like a bug in a shell script (Where oh
where have I ever seen those before :-} ). Just as a guess, it
looks alot like bugs I've had when I screw up a variable
expansion in sh. Need to know the revision and configuration of
your news system, but it looks like a bug in "Pnews" (I assume
that's what you're using).
