Let me first describe our system: Software: B News 2.11.14, NNTP 1.5 Hardware: Sun 4/260 Now, the problem: Lately, I've been getting strange errors that aren't logged as errors in errlog. Specifically, I get between 4 and 40 messages that couldn't be installed. Also, I occasionally run across articles that have been garbled very badly with no mention of an error in any log. This garbling is very regular, consisting of the repeated string "^P^Krn^P^Krn" for greater than 24 lines (I haven't read through all the way :-). This has happend on both locally posted news and inbound news. Our system is set up such that this machine (paris) is the central news server for the department with the news library and spool being shared among all of our suns via NFS. We were having problems with lockd dying on us, so I recompiled inews with flock instead of lockf, but the problems seem to persist. Only paris accesses any of the news files (library, spool, etc.) for write access, so flock should be OK. We receive all news from a single feed elsewhere on campus. That feed does not garble articles, so I'm fairly sure the problem is with our inews or nntp programs. If anybody else has run across problems like this, could you please let me know how to fix it? If not, I'm open to suggestions.
