Pexpire written by Dave Taylor (taylor@hplabs.hp.com) has been modified to support nexpire written by James Armstrong (att!rolls!jca). Several fixes have been applied to pexpire that was submitted to the net by the author. In addition several new command line switch options have been added to support nexpire. These options consist of: -R Base the readership of each newsgroup in the active file on the last read article in each users .newsrc file. Thus if the last read article is greater than, or equal to the oldest article on the system, as per the active file. This newsgroup is considered to be read by a user. This option allows for users that subscribe to a newsgroup but do not read any articles. -D Check the modification time of each users .newsrc file against the largest readership value in the pexpire.def file. If the modification time is greater than this value, the users .newsrc file is skipped. This option only checks for current news readers. Old logins with .newsrc files are not checked by pexpire. -N Generate output required by nexpire, i.e. supply only the expiration time and the newsgroup. Mike Pearce att!rolls!map
