eric@snark.uu.net (Eric S. Raymond) (03/22/89)
I've cooked up a distribution system for the TMNN beta 7 trials that should reduce duplication of work to a minimum. Each test site will be periodically mailed small patch kits summarizing changes made in response to bug reports and MRs. These patch kits will also be deposited in the TMNN sources ftp directory on linc.cis.upenn.edu; and they will be announced here. So far, I have released two micropatches, which are named `newspatch7.1' and `newspatch7.2'. Future micropatches will be `newspatch7.n' for some n. They will change your software's version number correspondingly; be sure to quote that number (found in version.h) when you send me mail. Bugs already found and fixed include: * a couple of minor glitches in ConfigureSys * a NULL-dereference problem in ttyin.c that caused readnews to core dump * an error in the system.h declaration of longjmp() * bogus initialization code in the nntp-interface library * and agument-mismatch problem in D.wrfeeds.c:s_changesub() * mis-declaration of free() in a header file * broken shell code in the arbitron script Most of these were things that could only become visible with the code compiled for BSD. More seriously, two BSD sites have reported that typed input in vnews is being echoed twice. This (obviously) needs to be fixed -- help from testers knowledgeable in the black art of Berzerkely tty bashing is solicited. Also, several sites have reported that the distribution shars don't create intermediate-level directories properly. This is being investigated. -- Eric S.
