[news.software.b] B news 2.11 expire bug

dhesi@bsu-cs.bsu.edu (Rahul Dhesi) (04/23/89)

Expiring with a command like

     expire -e 7 -E 15 -a comp.sources ...

I found that this not only archived the specified newsgroups, but also
expired *all other newsgroups*. The above command line is taken by
expire to mean:

     expire -e 7 -E 15 -n all -a comp.sources ...

This resulted in our losing articles in 7 days in all newsgroups, even
some local ones for which we wanted longer expiration periods.

This is true for:
     #define PATCHLEVEL	13
     #define NEWS_VERSION   "B 2.11 11/19/87"

This bug report is posted here to you won't be frustrated by the same
problem. The work-around is to explicitly specify newsgroup names to
both -n and -a switches.
