[news.software.b] responses to mail

henry@utzoo.uucp (Henry Spencer) (07/21/89)

Just so people know: we do our best to respond to *all* mail that comes
in to the "c-news" address mentioned in the C News README file. Sometimes
there is a short delay if we're busy, but if you didn't get a response
after a considerable wait, it probably means either (a) your mail didn't
reach us, or (b) our reply didn't reach you.

(One way to help avoid (b) is to supply a signature giving your [electronic]
mail address either as an Internet address or relative to [say] uunet.
Figuring it out from the message headers can be virtually impossible in
bad cases, and even when we can figure out how it got to us, that path
doesn't necessarily work in reverse. There are far too many demented
mailers out there that just love to rip open your envelope, scribble all
over the headers inside with a big black felt pen, and then seal it up
again and send it on, instead of just looking at the address on the
envelope and ignoring the contents like any sane postal system should.)
