[news.software.b] rn on MS-DOS?

While UNIX is obviously the 'right' environment to run news, we're about to
have a need to access news from MS-DOS. I've read the recent discussion
about how hard it might be to port news to MS-DOS, but I don't want the
whole system, just rn (or some other user interface of similar
functionality), and of course nntp. This in turn might run over one of the
various MS-DOS TCP/IP packages to an nntp server in the usual way.

Has anyone done this?

Of course we could simply telnet or kermit to a "real" computer, but nntp
plus a local reader seems much more sensible if it can be done.
