[news.software.b] Help trying to pass on files in 'junk'

dewey@sequoia.UUCP (Dewey Henize) (08/09/89)

I'm trying to pass on some news that isn't localized on this site. It's not
working...

This is site sequoia. Attached is site execu. I thought from my attempt to
RTFM that the way to do it would be to have sys file lines like this:

sequoia:\
	all,!to,to.sequoia:F:
execu:\
	all,!to,to.execu:F:

but it doesn't seem to work. A neighboring site wanted the files from my
junk area also and I built a sys file line like this to try to send junk
to them as well as the other groups they wanted. It doesn't seem to be
working either:

othsite:\
	world,na,usa,tx,austin,houston,dfw,
	biz,bionet,info,unix-pc,u3b,junk\
	:F:

Anyone want to point out to me what I did wrong? Seems like it should be SOOO
simple :-(

Thanks in advance.

Dewey

First you should never put 'junk' in the othersites sys entry, junk is
a special group for all kinds of trash, like old, trashed, not localized
articles and all your doing is propagating trash.
If you want to pass on articles that are going into junk, then
edit your active and sys file to add and accept those news groups or
in lieu of editing the active issue a local newsgroup creation message.

If you have alot of junk articles then there is a reason, edit or talk to
your feed, as they are feeding you something you may not want.
BTW do not edit hte active or sys during batching, unbatching, expire or
anytime rnews is running, its safer to issue a newgroup creation.

Hope this helps.
