I recently switched from SCO Xenix to Interactive Unix and re-installed my news (2.11) from one of the bnews distribution disks (without the Xenix mods). I have noticed that articles coming in for new groups are not automatically getting added to my system but are going out to NULL. According to the docs, there is an option to have new groups appended to the system (which I enabled in defs.h) but am it for some reason doesn't appear to be working. Newgroups that are listed in my active file make it to the system just fine even if no articles exist (the directory is then made) - but what do I need to do so that new message groups are appended to my active list, .newsrc and the articles tossed to the new directory? -- Larry Snyder uucp:iuvax!ndcheg!ndmath!nstar!larry The Northern Star Usenet Distribution Site, Notre Dame, IN USA

Larry, Make sure that the defs.h file is correct. Mine has an option for "NONEWGROUPS" not "NEWGROUPS". Remember that you must make the change in the localize.sh file and not just change the defs.h file or your changes will be overwritten by the makefile running localize.sh against defs.dist to create a new defs.h file. Is it possable that you turned on the "NONEWGROUPS" define thinking it worked the other way?. -- Steven E. Piette Applied Computer Technology Inc.
