[news.software.b] Expire trashes filesystem

john@jwt.UUCP (John Temples) (10/31/89)

I'm having a problem with expire on B news 2.11.14. It seems to
completely trash my /usr/spool/news filesystem about once every two
weeks. The damage is so severe fsck can't recover it, even with
repeated runs. I end up having to run mkfs. One symptom I've noticed
with each occurence is directory entries containg file names with
embedded `/' characters; ls will say something like "ab/cd not found"
when you're in the offending directory. The only clue I have is that
this only seems to occur when expire runs following a day of little or
no incoming news. I run expire daily. I'm running Venix/286 (SVR2).
Has anyone seen a problem like this?
