This must have been discussed before! Is there a Frequently Asked Questions posting for this group? If so, would someone please send me a copy? If the following has been covered before, please send me a summary! I have the Nutshell book but it doesn't answer these questions. "Sometimes there's no substitute for solid experience" - or something like that! I am a new news administrator and have just gotten all the pieces of B news 2.11 running. We have limited disk space and so have to be very selective about which groups we subscribe to. I would like to understand why I am receiving a bunch of articles in the junk group. I am guessing that these are articles that my feed is sending me that aren't in my sys subscription list. I'm not sure why this is happening since the feed's sys file is updated to stay in synch with mine. I get a batched feed so maybe the batches are already prepared for an entire category of newsgroups (comp..., misc...)? I am guessing this because the articles in junk seem to be in the same categories of groups that I do subscribe to. If I explicitly "unsubscribe" to the groups that I don't want in my sys file (!newsgroup) will that keep the articles from getting stuffed into junk? Or do people just expire the stuff in junk FREQUENTLY? I had problems trying to delete the articles in junk. I tried expire with various arguments including -e 0, but they just wouldn't go away. I ended up doing a rmgroup. I haven't expired any other articles yet so I don't know if the problem is with expire or the junk group. Is it obvious to any of you news gurus out there? Thanks for any help! Leo Pinard leo@aai.uucp
