I'm updating cnews with the January patches, and I'm curious about the relationship between cnews and dbm/ndbm. The system is a VAX running mt. Xinu's 4.3. It has both dbm and ndbm. In the past, I've answered build's questions as if it was using dbm, and it seemed to work alright. This time, patched to current, I tried making it use ndbm, but it doesn't seem to work. Should I just switch back to dbm-based build responses? Is anyone using ndbm with cnews? Dave Sill (dsill@relay.nswc.navy.mil)

With a straight ndbm, it shouldn't even compile, because the function names are different. If it compiles, it ought to work -- under 4.3, dbm is supposed to be implemented using ndbm, so a dbm-like interface found in ndbm presumably is identical to dbm. -- "The N in NFS stands for Not, | Henry Spencer at U of Toronto Zoology or Need, or perhaps Nightmare"| uunet!attcan!utzoo!henry henry@zoo.toronto.edu
