Have you been wanting to upgrade your Netnews and/or Rn software to the current version and/or patch level, but didn't want the headaches of configuration and testing? If you have a Motorola VME Delta system running System V/68 Release 3.0, you're in luck! I have configured Netnews 2.11, patchlevel 19 and Rn 4.3, patchlevel 44 so that the binaries can be used on any system without further configuration. Installation is simple and straightforward. The binaries are available for Motorola Delta Series running System V/68 Release 3.0. They have been in use for almost two months on one of my machines and have been in use for over one month on four different systems. A couple of minor bugs were found and fixed during that time. There are no known bugs in the current version. All testing has been done under version 5.1 of SVR3. The binary distribution includes everything you need to get started, except a news feed. One hard copy of the documentation per "customer" will be sent. The software is available via UUCP (if you already have a link with mcdchg) or on cartridge tape. For tape distribution, send your tape along with a business card or note giving your name, address, phone, email, and fax information. Also include the fact that the tape is for the Netnews Binary Distribution. Also mention if you need the older 60Meg tape density. Tapes will be written with "cpio -ocB" and will be at the highest density that the supplied tape will accept on the Delta. Either Archive-style cartridge or Exabyte cartridge can be handled. Please send Email first, so I have a chance to refer you to someone in your neighborhood who has already received a copy of the distribution. There is no restriction on reproduction as long as the author's copyright notice is left intact. Feel free to pass copies along to both Motorola and non-Motorola sites using 68K Delta systems. -- Ron Heiby, heiby@chg.mcd.mot.com Moderator: comp.newprod "She fell there."
