A method to solve all this is now written, and in alpha test. I am feeding one site ClariNet with it (not a dynamic feed) and I hope to get my own site's feed dynamic tomorrow when the sysadmin comes back. Shortly after that we can do beta test, possibly polish up the shell scripts and other stuff a bit, and release it to the world. I will leave it for FTP pickup on uunet shortly. The idealist in me wonders if this might reduce some USENET flaming, if nobody carries a group they don't want, everybody carries what they do want, and it's easy -- and often trivial -- to make changes. But the realist knows the complainers will still be around. To some extent this program eliminates the concept of the news hierarchy You can still use hiearchies, in that you can ask for all the groups that match a regular expression, like '^comp\.' -- but this is not built into the system in any significant way. -- Brad Templeton, ClariNet Communications Corp. -- Waterloo, Ontario 519/884-7473
