[news.software.b] vn fails if active > 599 lines

george@racsys.UUCP (George Rachor) (07/31/90)

As the number of newsgroups has expanded I have ran into problems with
the vn newsreader.

I find that if the /usr/lib/news/active file contains more than 599 entries
that vn bails out with the message "can't allocate memory for string storage"

I have tried compiling the source (anybody got the right makefile for this
on an Intel System 310 running xenix 3.5?) but can't get the code generated
to match the original binary I have had that work so well so long.

It looks to me like the malloc call fails in 'storage.c' but I don't know
enough about how malloc works to understand why it fails in this instance.

Anyone else run into this and have a solution (or ideas?)?

Thanks,
