[news.software.b] cnews and nntp setup cheat sheet

tom@viewlog.UUCP (Thomas Yen) (08/10/90)

Can anybody shed a light for me how to run and manage Cnews
thru NNTP ? I installed the Cnews and NNTP lately on two
Sun3/60 runnimg 4.0.3 SUn OS. I could rn and Pnews to the
news server from other Sun news client.

But I had a hard time to read thru the exact procedure and
command syntax for the nntp and cnews to get news feed from
samsung.com to our cnews machine ernie.viewlogic.com.

The Cnews I got it from uunet lately which I beleive is the
latest version which has a patch date on May-90 and the
nntp.1.5.9 with a little hack to make it work. ( I knew
it had a bug thru news ).

Please E-mail to me directly. tom@viewlogic.com
	Thanks

If someone is willing to write something like this and send it to me, I
will happily include it in the standard NNTP distribution. I don't run
CNEWS so I am not in a position to write one.

It's on our to-be-documented list, but don't expect instant miracles,
as documentation is not our highest priority just now. (Our highest
priority is doing the things we get paid for, which rarely means C News,
alas.) Also, we're not NNTP gurus, which slows things down.

The READMEs and such, that come with NNTP already, aren't that bad.

I followed the instructions and voila, a working news system.
