Since not so long ago I'm running BNEWS 2.11 Patchlevel 19 on a HP9000/840. (I moved from a HP9000/340). After re-compiling all the software and re- installing it (and some minor other strange happenings) I got stuck on trying to expire the news. When I tried to expire the following happened (this is a piece of /usr/lib/news/errlog): Aug 17 12:26 richard inews: freopen(_{`): No such file or directory Aug 17 12:26 Unknown inews: rnews failed, status 256. Batch saved in /usr/spool/news/.bad/_{` Aug 17 12:26 richard inews: freopen(_{`): No such file or directory Aug 17 12:26 Unknown inews: rnews failed, status 256. He managed to trace this back to a wrong implementation of the "ndir" stuff. I don't know where the exact fix is, but you should check the directory-access configuration details in "src/params.h". (The confusion must be between including <dirent.h>, <ndir.h> and <sys/dir.h>) good luck, --[ Edwin ]-- -- Edwin Kremer (SysAdm), Dept. of Computer Science, Utrecht University Padualaan 14, P.O.
