[news.software.b] Odd log file entry...

stealth@caen.engin.umich.edu (Mike Pelletier) (08/21/90)

What do you make of the following C-news /usr/lib/news/log file entry:

Aug 20 14:35:28.028 caen f <3Riraq-stealth_16f@clarinet.com>

The name of the news site is caen...
Any ideas?

Beats me. Unless Geoff forgot to document something, there is no "f" log
entry type.

As far as I know, "f" is a Dave-Alden-ism for nntplink, but I don't
know what it indicates. Dave forgot to document his new log codes and
forgot to mark his changes, but he assures me that future nntplink
releases will remedy these problems (unless we obsolete nntplink
first, hee hee).

Yes - I'm guilty. Sorry about that - I was hoping to release a new version of
nntplink (which would include the correct documentation about my changes
to relaynews) soon enough that I wouldn't have to release just a new relaynews
patch. I guess I'd better go ahead and release a patch only for relaynews.
I'll send mail to the "linkers" mailing list once I've got that patch online.
If you aren't on the Linkers mailing list yet would like to get the new patch
just drop me a note and I'll make sure to tell you when (and where) it's
available.

What the flag means is that a cancel control message came across but there
wasn't an article to cancel (f == failed).
