I sent out a couple of checkgroups messages recently for gnu.*. Today, I was mildly horrified to get the following complaint about it from a Columbia site. Stuff mailed to "root" here gets dumped in newsgroup cis.staff.daemon-mail. This software is 7.5 years old, folks; I especially liked the Relay-Version (no Posting-Version? or would that have been my site's responsibility?), the Article-I.D. built out of the Message-ID, and the disparate use of Posted -vs- Date. Usenet humor is best when it comes from its own history. --karl Path: tut.cis.ohio-state.edu!CUCARD.MED.COLUMBIA.EDU!news From: news@CUCARD.MED.COLUMBIA.EDU (USENET user) Newsgroups: cis.staff.daemon-mail Subject: Unrecognized Control Message Message-ID: <9010180818.AA12279@columbia.edu> Date: 18 Oct 90 14:18:40 GMT Sender: daemon@tut.cis.ohio-state.edu Lines: 19 X-Unparsable-Date: Thu, 18-Oct-90 04:17:52 EDT Currently running news B version B 2.10 5/3/83.
