[news.software.b] Briging up CNEWS on a DecStation 3100

mahesh@caradhras.cc.nd.edu (Mahesh Subramanya) (11/16/90)

I've just spent the last couple of days trying to bring up
CNEWS on our main news server (a DecStation 3100 running Ultrix 3.1). We
use nntp 1.5.10 to connect to both ou upstream, and downstream sites.
Well, *almost* everything works right. nntpxmit very merrily
transmits articles dowsntream, articles posted downstream are accepted by
rnews, spooled, and saved by newsrun, and nntpxmit also manages to send
these upstream. BUT, my upstream site has a devil of a time
getting any articles down to me. It connects to nntpd on my machine,
starts to create a spool file in /var/spool/news/in.coming, and after
downloading a batchfile with about three articles in it, just hangs
there interminably.

Any ideas? Anybody out there have any tips ("You mean
you didn't create the foobar directory? Everyone knows you have to
create the foobar directory!") on the combo of CNEWS and nntp on a
3100?

Thanx in advance for any help
