Articles in rec.equestrian will expire (by default) after 22 days, at which point their history lines will evaporate instantly. The /expired/ line becomes significant only when the article has expired. -- If the Space Shuttle was the answer, | Henry Spencer at U of Toronto Zoology what was the question? | henry@zoo.toronto.edu utzoo!henry

here's my explist file (comments taken out): # modified version, no archiving /expired/ x 14 - /bounds/ x 0-1-42 - all x 14 - soc, talk x 7 - news.software x 42 - comp.unix.ultrix x 42 - rec.equestrian x 42 - junk x 2 - but i find that there are no articles older than 14 days in rec.equestrian, news.software.*, and comp.unix.ultrix. in fact, the soc and talk groups are also kept 14 days. and the 'junk' group is kept for 7! (i verified this by looking at the dates in of the files themselves). what's up? is the order of the statements order-dependent (i wouldn't think so). thanks. -- Gary J. The first line which applies to a group is the one that controls its expiration. Move this line to the end of the file to get the behavior you desire. This is clearly stated in the manual page for expire(8). -John -- palkovic@linac.fnal.gov Hmmm... Deleted the trailing garbage.

Sure is. Check out expire(8). The first line that applies to the group is used. -- Kenneth Herron kherron@ms.uky.edu University of Kentucky (606) 257-2975 Department of Mathematics "Never trust gimmicky gadgets" -- the Doctor
