I'm still getting bogus error messages from relay news: "can't write history file, etc." So I did an experiment -- I copied history to another file and truncated the original. After a newsfeed and processing, I found a small ( <20K ) history file created at 7:09 and an errlog full of those messages created at 7:06!! And $NEWS/in.coming/bad has no 66* files in it! Oh, yes, I have lots of mail from newrun about "66* bad, error 176". Grrr! What is going on here???? /usr has about 80M of free space and 37000 unused inodes. /u2 (where the news articles are kept) has about 90M free and 46000 inodes. Today's newsfeed was 9375158 bytes (compressed, of course), but /u2's free space decreased by only 9772 KB. I doubt that 50% of my feed was duplicates. This is on an AT&T 6386 running SV/386 R3.2.2. Cnews is patched through 15-Dec-1990, and was compiled with the AT&T ANSI C compiler (CI 5.0). Could the compiler be the problem????? I ran Cnews for quite a while on a 3B2/400 without this problem, and I *think* I used the CI 5.0 compiler there, too, but the two compilers *could* be different. :-( Help!
