I compiled cnews today, including cnews-speedups, according to advice posted here earlier re SCO XENIX cnews installs. As per the instructions, news owns everything (ie ran doit.* and again.root and cnews-speedup/make install as news). rnews generates "can't set uid or gid" error and zaps the inbound compressed news file. /usr/lib/news/setnewsids is uid root. Pnews (trn) works fine, as it did with bnews, but the inbound processing is a writeoff. As a pile of folks depend on my system for newsfeeds, I'm up the creek without a paddle. (Even tried re-compiling bnews, but Murphy negated the process, and it won't work now, either.) relaynews simply hangs, without error messages, and nothing is written to /usr/lib/news/log. Somethings amiss :-( Any suggestions? (Please reply email - I have no news capability at the moment as far as inbound is concerned.
