I had modem problems last week and I don't know whether
this article got out of my company and onto the net.
Hopefully it didn't, because there were errors in it. The
following is my original corrected article.
In running doit.bin I got this error
$ make all DBM= COPTS=-O
cc -O -I../include batcher.o ../libcnews.a -o batcher
ld: Undefined symbol
_strerror
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `batcher'
Three bits of information
1) This is a new build of the last 5 1990 patches.
2) I did not rerun "build" to get new doit scripts
because it seemed that the doit files would be the
same as before (since I hadn't moved any existing
news directory locations).
2) And I mistakenly ran doit.bin as root first before
I realized that I was not the user bin.
I changed the newly changed root owned files back
to owner bin before starting over.
Can anyone out there give me a hand? I would like to get
this problem fixed so I can get a start on the newest patches.
Thank you for any help.

Um, in case you haven't noticed, build asks you about many things other than directory locations. You need to rerun build. -- And the bean-counter replied, | Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology "beans are more important". | henry@zoo.toronto.edu utzoo!henry
