[net.lang.lisp] LISPs on Sun Workstations.

notes@mcgill-vision.UUCP (01/20/86)

We are currently considering getting LISP for our SUNs so if anyone has any
information comparing Lucid (I would assume this is synonymous with Sun CL)
and Franz on Suns please send me mail. We already have a pair of Symbolics
LISPMs, so Common Lisp is a must. Mostly, I guess, we're looking for info
comparing speeds, environments, memory limits and such like. Anyone wishing
to flame at one or the other is also welcome to send me anything you've got.

As usual, if there is sufficient demand, summary goes to the net.

Lucid is the name of an independent company that developed the
LISP compiler for the 68000's. They sell it to a number of companies
including SUN, Apollo, etc.

The president (or CEO, I'm not sure which) of LUCID is the same
Gabriel who authored the Gabriel benchmarks and helped write the
Common Lisp book; so you can rest assured that their lisp completely
follows the standard.

I have looked at benchmarks for their Lisp on the SUNs, and they are
very impressive. Almost as fast as the Symbolics
