I think that mail/news gatewaying (it's a bidirectional issue :-) is mostly
a solved problem.

I (not so) humbly refer interested parties to the "newsgate" package
posted a few months ago in comp.sources.unix.

 Yes.  But doesn't "newsgate" pipe the article into inews ?
