[news.newsites] dateline NY: manhat & mancol come out of the closet!

jh@mancol.UUCP (John Hanley) (02/02/88)

Manhat and mancol have been on the air for some time but weren't properly
updated in the maps. (The last map entry I saw published for manhat
dated from the days when it was our venerable PDP-11.) Hope there's no
name conflict....

If anyone knows how "feed on demand" works, please let me know, as we
are short on disk space and it would doubtless make feeding someone
much less painfull. (The theory is, don't spool news for X until X polls
you, which is a good tradeoff if CPU is cheap and disk is expensive.)

We have excess modem and CPU capacity and are willing to set up uucp
connections and news feeds to sites that will poll us. However, we
are low on man-power to administer the whole mess, so bear with us if
it takes a while to fix things. We will demand the password to ~news
from any machine we feed to reduce setup confusion and "could you change
this..." messages, and will give out a guest account so you can see how
our /usr/lib/news files are set up and how rn is _supposed_ to work.
I heartily recommend any other site setting up a feed to follow similar
procedures, at least until it's working for a week.

And now the map entries: (with whiter whites and commas in the right places)
