I've just ported Franz onto our MG-1 workstation (which uses NatSemi 32000 processors). It seems to go quite well, but one of our first Beta-site prospects has just phoned up to say "Will it support Flavors?" I keep seeing traffic on the net from a site who have got Flavors going in Franz, but I can't for the life of me remember who it is. SO: Is it possible to do Flavors in Franz?? Who's done it?? How much does it cost?? If it's PD, how quickly can you e-mail/s-mail the sources to me?? Will this news item ever reach the far side of the Atlantic?? Does anyone care?? If you can answer these questions and more, you have my undying gratitude. It comes on our software distribution tape with other strange and sundry goodies. Mail to seismo!umcp-cs!despina for more information, or send snail mail to: Diane Miller Computer Science Department University of Maryland College Park, MD 20742 U.S.A. Be warned--efficient flavors implementations get pretty intimate with the lisp implementation, and ours is pretty efficient, so whether it will drop in and run depends a lot on your Franz Opus. But we send you all the source... There is also a Flavors available from Franz Inc with their Franz, which is supported, and we are also in the process of porting our flavors to Franz Inc. lisp. -mark ------- Spoken: Mark Weiser ARPA: mark@maryland Phone: +1-301-454-7817 CSNet: mark@umcp-cs UUCP: {seismo,allegra}!umcp-cs!mark USPS: Computer Science Dept., University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742 -- Spoken: Mark Weiser ARPA: mark@maryland Phone: +1-301-454-7817 CSNet: mark@umcp-cs UUCP: {seismo,allegra}!umcp-cs!mark USPS: Computer Science Dept., University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742

Franz Incorporated, the comemrcial supplier of Franz Lisp, provides a Flavors Package derived from (Rich Zippel's) Lisp Machine flavors. The manual provided with Franz Opus 42 describes the routines in detail. We are happily using Opus 42.16.3 with flavors. I believe Fritz Kunze (Franz Inc.) is still taking mail at franz!fkunze@ucbvax.berkeley.edu, but cannot swear to it. Tha printed address is: Franz Inc. 1141 Harbor Bay Parkway Alameda, California 94501 (U.S.A.) Telephone: 415-769-5656 The commercial version is much improved over the Univeristy version (Opus 38 and earlier), and I have been pretty happy with the support. I see by their advertisements that the company does Franz Lisp and Extended Common Lisp Ports for new machines as well, so you might want to talk with them. -- Eleazor bar Shimon, Carolingia
