[news.config] What happened to the maps?

page@ulowell.UUCP (Bob Page) (01/08/87)

It was pointed out that my map entry in u.usa.ma.1 is rather old -
over a year old, in fact. Nah, I said, can't be. I've SEEN some
from pretty recent.

So I looked through all of u.usa.ma.1 .. Yow! There are a lot
of sites with old (read: bogus) map entries! Some look OK, some
are surely wrong. I did not check other files besides u.usa.ma.1,
so I don't know how widespread the problem is.

u.usa.ma.1 should be considered suspect. All site admins everywhere
should check your map entries. And rather than post a zillion correct
map entries to news.config, let's just find the old ones, ok?

It's true that ulowell is (correct as of a month ago) in the d.usa.ma.1
map, but I'm not convinced that people are using the d.* files as much
as they should be (you should be, they don't hurt anything as long as
you put them through pathalias with the u.* files).

Note that this is for the Dec postings - I have not seen the Jan ones
yet except for some att sites.

If you have an updated version of your map entry, please mail it
to uucpmap@cbosgd, don't post it here. Entries received very soon
may make it into the January posting, others will get into the February
posting.

The AT&T maps that escaped from cbosgd in late December did so by
mistake, that was not intended to be a map posting. They were
identical to the previous posting.
