Due to steadily increasing phone bills (and dubious value vs. high volume), hao will be dropping the "talk" newsgroups. As far as I know, nbires is still carrying them, so if you are a site fed by us (boulder, ico, gaia, and scdpyr), or if you get all your news via one of these sites, you could possibly make arrangements to pick up any desired talk groups from another local site. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but it is very clear that concern over the cost of USENET is a hot issue here at the moment, and this is the least damaging way I can think of to produce a major cut in costs without rocking the boat too much (such as signing up for PC Pursuit or something else that would require filling out a purchase order). This goes into effect Monday, Feb. 10. I will be requesting that our news feeds edit their sys files accordingly as the time draws near. --Greg -- UUCP: {hplabs, seismo, nbires, noao}!hao!woods CSNET: woods@ncar.csnet ARPA: woods%ncar@CSNET-RELAY.ARPA INTERNET: woods@hao.ucar.edu
