During the week of March 24-26, sdcsvax and its associate systems will be down whilst we have our raised floor installed (YAH!). Since we are a major news and mail distribution hub in the San Diego area, these services will be unavailable or delayed for a few days. Systems affected include (all of these are in the ucsd.edu domain): 'sdcsvax', 'grendel', 'beowulf', 'gremlin', 'wizard', 'ucsdhub', 'wotan', all 'sdccX' systems, and many of the other systems on campus who receive their news and mail via sdcsvax/ucsdhub. Current plans call for a complete shutdown of all systems on Tuesday, March 24 when we move them all out of the room, installation of the flooring on Wednesday, and reinstallation of systems on Thursday after the glue dries. We hope to have sdcsvax and ucsdhub back in service late Thursday. If Murphy's law prevails, however, or if the surf's up, it might be Friday before we're back in communication again. This is advance notice. We'll let our network neighbors know more details as plans solidify - i.e., as soon as we're sure what we're doing.
