cbatt, the news gateway into Ohio, lost the disk /usr was on last weekend. It was discovered Monday morning. A new disk was put in on Tuesday, and Wednesday was spent reading in backups. Today it came up, but there is still something seriously wrong with the machine - it flunks diagnostics on the new disk when it boots, so it has to be booted manually. It has also panicked a couple of times today for no obvious reason. As a result, it's back up, but flakey. It could crash at any time. We'll probably take it down for a few hours to try swapping in parts, and it might go down again for another full restore of /usr. So don't be surprised if it goes down again soon. /usr/spool is on the good disk, and was not affected, so I don't expect any lost or duplicate traffic, but with that much downtime, anything is possible.
