I've decided to stop adding anti-Symmetric flames to these "Host 'vixie' is down" messages, because I hope to sell this piece of junk soon, and I don't want to bias possible purchasers against me.... ooops.. Anyway, both my HD's went to hell the other night, and Symmetric's port of the 'dump' program has been quietly screwing up all my backups from the beginning of time (anybody know if BSD dump properly handles symtables that span volumes? I back up to 800K floppies, you see, and...). There's a good chance that I have lost every byte of data ever stored on anything but TAR floppies (i.e., my mod.sources archive is safe...). I recovered by root filesys, so UUCP neighbors should keep calling me -- I've dummied out uuxqt until I have mail, news, and other things back up again. I'm not sure what I will do, yet. I am definitely in the market for a new machine, but that won't solve the immediate problem... So, for at least the next week or so, consider site 'vixie' DOWN. Any mail you want to send to people on 'vixie', send it to me on 'ubvax' and I'll deliver it by hand.
