[news.config] Sequent ships Symmetry -- UKMA will be down

Sigh... when will it ever end :-)?

We regrettably are going to have ANOTHER downtime for ANOTHER major system
change. UNFORTUNATELY we did not know about this one very far in advance
(Why else would it be happening DURING a semester?).

Sequent has recently started shipping out the hardware to do the Symmetry
version of their machines. (The 80386 based machine). We have a Balance,
but it was only a 'hold-over' machine until the Symmetry came out. The new
machine will have 22 processors, another Gig of disk space, and NFS. The
old machine had 28 processors and something over 30 megs of memory and around
a Gig of disk space. Otherwise it's the same box, the same IP address,
and so on (s.ms.uky.edu).

The only important thing is that our news system (ukma) will be down for
a few days. Current best guess is starting Wednesday the 6th we'll be
starting the backups at 4:30 and at the same time shut down most of the
network stuff. Testing/installation of the new hardware over the next
couple of days and installing the new OS. Best guess, again, the system
will be back up (maybe) the next Monday (Most likely later than that).

Other services will continue to run. Our UUCP & BITNET links are run
off other machines (g for uucp and a for bitnet) as are the nameservers.
Mail service already is pointed at other machines, and no users read
their mail on 's' anyway.
