Hello, I am the sytem operator of 'impulse' located in the USA. Lately, we have been receiving a lot of mail here that is apparently destined to a machine also named 'impulse' somewhere in Europe (Germany, perhaps??). I can't find a reference to impulse other than ourselves on our net maps (the newest of which are about a month old). The path to us should be something like: ...!uunet!att!cbosgd!att.UUCP!cwjcc!neoucom!impulse The path the the other impulse should be (from examining our log): ...!altger!unido!focus!impulse Apparently, the mailer(s) at altger and/or unido are altering the addresses to direct the mail to tellabs5 and subsequently through the first path to us: ...!altger!unido!tellabs5!uunet!att!cbosgd!att.UUCP!cwjcc!neoucom!impulse Unfortunately, we've been unable to bounce the failed mail back to those of you in Germany who are trying to contact our doppelganger machine. The reject notices seem to be disappearing in a mail server at neoucom. We have also not yet succeeded in contacting impulse, apparently due to address translations causing the letters to come back to us. If anyone has suggestions, I'd be interested in hearing. My apologies if this is the wrong group to mention this; I'm not sure where the best place is. --Bill (wtm@impulse) return mail path: ...!lll-winken!scooter!neoucom!impulse!wtm
