I only recently discovered this newsgroup and
have been reading everything trying to figure
it out and would like to comment on several
topics that have been floating around.
I was introduced to typesetting on unix
and spent several years learning troff.
I love troff and between troff and tex,
I have spent well over 50% of my logged
time in typesetting activities. A natural
result of this is that I view unix as
primarily a typesetting system. Even weirder,
I think of C as a typesetter implementation language.
The unix/c combination is a (computer) typesetter's
dream and any comparison to any other system pales.
Laser printers are here and this newsgroup will
be filled with their discussions for many years.
One day I will have my own and then my long
years of work will blossom. For myself, this will always be
on a unix system and be centered on troff and tex.
I wish us all many years of glorious printing.

	Happy New Year,
	Pat

P.S. Long live character devices!
