[comp.text] PostScript ROM font protection

patwood@esquire.UUCP (01/28/87)

Did you know that the PostScript font protection scheme in ROM has been
cracked? The outline information is rather easily accessed due to a bug
and/or hole in PostScript. I'll post more info later when I've had a
chance to look at it in more detail. By the way, does anyone know what
the legal implications of describing this hole would be? What about the
legalities of distributing a program that uploaded a font description
over the serial line from a LaserWriter (i.e., a program that gives you
downloadable fonts taken from those stored in the LW's ROM)?
