After seeing a note about the TeX mailing list in this group and the fact that there was an archive at su-score, I decided to see if there was anything useful there. I was able to login via anonymous ftp. I guessed from the behavior that this is not a UNIX machine (maybe DEC 20 or 10?). I was able to successfully download the TEXHAX 86 index (do caps matter?) but then, I was curious what was in the BIBTEX.DIRECTORY (which I guessed to be a directory) since our copy of bibtex is badly munged. I was never able to successfully cd to this directory so I thought that maybe it was a file after all. No luck when I tried to "get" it because it is not a text file. Soooo....what am I doing wrong and how does one get into that directory? I am asking this of the net rather than texhax-request since I figure others out there will end up repeating my experiment after the recent postings and they might as well get the benefit of the answer. Thanks in advance. -- Anita Cochran uucp: {noao, ut-sally, ut-ngp}!utastro!anita arpa: anita@astro.as.utexas.edu snail: Astronomy Dept., The Univ. of Texas, Austin, TX, 78712 at&t: (512) 471-1471
