[comp.text] hardware/software for *small* fonts

I'm interested in finding out about hardware/software to print small
fonts (just *barely* big enough to read).  Are there dot-matrix printers
that will do this, or must one get a thermal transfer or laser printer?
Will TEX handle small fonts?  Is there anything better for the job?
