February 25, 1986 Urbana, Illinois Lotus Manuscript stores files in readable 7-bit ASCII Recently, while playing around with a version of Lotus Manuscript, I accidently loaded a Manuscript file in to an ASCII editor. To my surprise I could read it. This is in contrast to Microsoft Word, in which the file completely unreadable. So what? you ask. Well, this means: 1) It should be easy to manually convert a file to Manuscript 2) Using SED/LEX/YACC it may be possible to automatically convert Manuscript files, to TeX or Troff. As a sample of what these files look like, here is this note in Manuscript format. I have changed control characters (e.g. cntl-Q is ^Q) Carl Kadie University of Illinois ------------------------------------------- *R1 MDThis is the document description MAThis is the author's name MR1003 PDMonth D, Year PTH:MM am/pm P1HL P1HC P1HR P1FL P1FC P1FR P1C33 FHA1 FTT2 FSH150 FST200 FSS200 FI3 FLN99 DDGeneric DNGeneric DP0,8500,11000 NST150 NSN150 YCL99 OE1 OS1 *B0 S BL40 TFebruary 25, 1986^QUrbana, Illinois^Q BFJ2 TLotus Manuscript stores files in readable 7-bit ASCII^Q TRecently, while playing around with a version of Lotus Manuscript, I accidently loaded a Manuscript file in to an ASCII editor.
