A small company in Mobile, AL has mated the Xerox 2700 printing engine with a 68000 based controller and supports true bit-mapped graphics. 1 mbyte of memory is on board, so there is no requirement to generate the bit-map in the host. 12 fonts (6 portrait, 6 landscape) are hard-wired in. Service is by Xerox. Single quantity list price ~$25K. Quality of Xerox machines is far better than the Canon-based Imagen printers, and now that true graphics is available at a competitive price, this would seem to be the best product currently available. DEC's version, which will supposedly do some graphics, is not out until July. I am looking for comments, and possibly reports from current users. There are apparently 70 of these printers currently in the field. Reply to me by mail and I'll summarize. Elmer Beachley Pittsburgh, PA. (412) 462-5000 x6416
