[net.periphs] QMS laser printer

etb@pitt.UUCP (05/29/83)

A small company in Mobile, AL has mated the Xerox 2700 printing engine with
a 68000 based controller and supports true bit-mapped graphics. 1 mbyte of
memory is on board, so there is no requirement to generate the bit-map in
the host. 12 fonts (6 portrait, 6 landscape) are hard-wired in. Service
is by Xerox. Single quantity list price ~$25K. Quality of Xerox machines
is far better than the Canon-based Imagen printers, and now that true graphics
is available at a competitive price, this would seem to be the best
product currently available. DEC's version, which will supposedly do some
graphics, is not out until July.
I am looking for comments, and possibly reports from current users. There
are apparently 70 of these printers currently in the field. Reply to me by
mail and I'll summarize.
