[] Using LaTeX and article style, I have figures that are consecutively numbered and correctly referred to via "\ref". I have tables that are independently consecutively numbered--so far, so good. But when I refer to a table via "\ref{labeloftable}" I get the section or subsection that "\ref" occurs in. Lamport's book says this is supposed to happen in report and book style, but not in article. Here, however, we get consecutive numbering in captions and something else in referring to it. Is this my problem, a bug in article.sty, or something else? Anyone else see this problem? Thanks in advance for your help. -- ______________________________________ Rod Oldehoeft Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory rro@lll-crg.arpa

I don't have the answer offhand (and may never) but I would like to suggest prople with LaTeX/TeX questions mail their questions to texhax@score.stanford.edu on the Internet. There are many knowledgeable people on this list, including Lamport himself. If you want to subscribe to the list, mail to texhax-request@score.stanford.edu not the previous address. I repeat: do not mail administrative requests to the first address. There is a special address for BITNET redistribution. I think it is TEX-L at TAMVM1. I can't find the info now. Your BITNET administrator might be able to tell you. Ken
