I'm posting this for a friend. If at all possible, please respond either in news, or to him. I will forward any replies I get it that's not possible. David Hinnant N.C. Educational Computing Service (919) 549-0671 ucbvax!decvax!mcnc!dfh ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lately I've been foraging in the wilderness for the best value in a VT-100/ANSI compatible terminal. Some of the beasts I've looked at include: The C. Itoh-101 -- a nice terminal, has a second communications port with some nifty features. It allows connection to two hosts at the same time and passing files between the two. Will even handle two systems operating at different baud rates sending x-on and x-off to slow down the faster incoming traffic, buffering to smooth things out. Has nice keyboard feel and looks an awful lot like the real thing from DEC. (Costs about the same too, by the time you figure in a discount from independent suppliers.) About $1350 including the second port and green or amber (your choice) screen. The General Terminal Corporation SW-10 -- Seems to be very solid in construction (heavy), the price is the best so far but lacks 132 column capability and double-height/double-width characters. Quoted at about $750.00 each in lots of 10 or more. The Ergo-301 from Micro-Term -- seems to be a full emulation with a bi-directional printer port similar to (but not as flexible as) the C. Itoh. Is an attractive and seemingly functional design (ergonomic). Keyboard feels nice enough, and it comes with a green screen with good clarity. A nice terminal and a really good buy at around $800.00 in quantities of 10 or more. All three of the above use an annotated set-up mode far superior to the VT-100. I have been using one of the C. Itoh terminals for several months with no problems. I would like to hear from anyone with an extended use report on any of the above. In addition, if you know of any other good values in a similar terminal, I'd like to know about it too. If this turns up any coherent replies, I'll post a summary. Thanks...
