I need advice from someone with experience with TeX on VAX/VMS with an LN03 laser printer. We are considering TeX to do preparation of our technical reports, which often include phonetic symbols and math formulas. We have an UNofficial TeX distribution tape, which is apparently missing the font files needed to get hardcopy on the LN03 (PXL, GF, or LN03 files, apparently). So, I haven't been able to actually produce any output with TeX, and since it WILL cost us some money to get TeX up and running (the official distribution tape plus ram cartidges for our LN03's), I'd like some advice before recommending that we spend the money. My questions are: Any problems in using TeX in this configuration (bugs, etc.)? Is the LN03 ram cartridge really necessary? I've heard there is a firm called Kellerman & Smith which sells a commercial VMS implementation of TeX. Any information about them? (their address; how much do they charge; is it worth the extra $$)? Please send any and all information you think would have the slightest chance of being useful to me. Thanks. ------------------------- Mike Dedina Speech Research Lab Indiana University dedina@silver.bacs.indiana.edu
