This may be a very basic question, but the LaTeX book doesn't help. How do you space out letters so that they aren't so close together. example, s u p p o s e I w a s r e a l l y s p a c e d o u t a n d well not that far out, but is there a parameter such as glue or or something that I can adjust? This is to satisfy the Thesis Secretary, Her Almighty Goddess. For regular plain TeX, a friend of mine used \magnification=1300 with 12pt type, but in LaTeX, you can't use \magnification.
