Well..... I received no responses the last time I posted this, but I can't beleive there is not someone out there who can send me some information on this, so I am posting again to see if I can generate some kind of response. I am running System V Release 2 on a National Semiconductor 32032 based machine. I am looking for public domain [nt]roff software and/or [nt]roff support for an Imagen Imprint-10 Laser Printer. If anyone has information as to where I can obtain this software, please send me email at the address below. Thanks in advance for your help and co-operation (?) I find your assumption that there *must* be a PD version of troff interesting. Writing such a program would represent many 100s of programmer-hours. It's not clear to me why someone should make such an investment just to save you a little money. They might do it to create a *new* formatter (let's face it, troff is pretty obsolete).

Hi,
I don't know the Impress-10 printer but the Imagen printer that we have in the
lab (2308 I think ) can emulate a Tek 2040 monitor and so using Troff as if it
were outputting to a 2040 screen and the Imagen in the emulation mode should bea quick and dirty fix !

Sorry sorry I had all the numbers wrong in the last posting ! The printer is
(or rather was) an Imagen 800 upgraded to 2308. The terminal emulated is a
4010 or 4014 or some such graphics terminal. There is a warning that since
full resolution of a 4010 is not available (it being a 300 dpi printer) the
emulation is not perfect.

I am sure that I saw the beginnnings of a PD program called "tr" or "tf" or something like that that was supposed to have 90% of the functionality of nroff (I don't really know nroff, so I've litte idea of whether or not that's saying much) in a computer magazine. I *believe* that it was Dr. Dobbs, but I'm not certain. -- --Brian. (Brian T. Schellenberger) ...!mcnc!rti!sas!bts DISCLAIMER: Whereas Brian Schellenberger (hereinafter "the party of the first
