[comp.text] sources of TeX software

terry@moogvax.UUCP (Terry Westley) (11/06/87)

In the process of deciding on a document preparation system for the
software and hardware engineers using a VAX 11/750 with Ultrix, I am
comparing TeX and DWB.

I have found at least three sources of supported versions of DWB.
These are Elan, SoftQuad, and Textware.

However, I have not discovered any companies that produce and support
TeX for Ultrix/Un*x. I have sent to U. of Washington for information
about the source distribution tape, but I would be willing to pay for a
supported version that runs on Ultrix with output to a LaserJet Series
II. I don't really have the time or personnel to support a source code
version.

Is there any company out there that sells a supported version of TeX
for Ultrix (or BSD) with output to a LaserJet printer? How about a
previewer on some graphics terminal such as TEK 4105A? I would also
purchase a PC version with graphics previewer. (I realize
Addison-Wesley has PC and Mac versions.)

ArborText, 535 W William St, Suit 300, Ann Arbor, MI 48103 (313) 996-3566
lists a version of TeX, and DVILASER/HP for Vax/UNIX which I assume is
Ultrix or BSD. I have not seen this version although I have run
their, TeX, DVI(for Imagen) and Previewer for on Apollos and been
fairly pleased.
