[comp.text] Metafont in C?

little@sdcsvax.UCSD.EDU (Glenn Little) (11/18/87)

I now have TeX and Bibtex in C, and am happy with both so far. What I
am wondering now is if there is a fairly stable Metafont
implementation in C in the public domain? Does anyone know where I
  could get something like that?

  Thanks.

Well, we have a TeX to C translator that works directly from the WEB
with no human intervention, and generates nice, clean C, that is
portable and stuff. We have it *this* close to working on MF, but
I don't have the time to pursue this. If anyone wants to continue
work on this, please let me know. You must be expert with Pascal,
C, TeX, MF, yacc, lex, make, and shell scripts, and be able to read
a 1600 bpi 9-track VAX Unix tar tape. Assuming this, it should be
straightforward. I recommend having at least 15 MB with which to
play and some amount of dedication. Oh yeah, it all must be public
domain (which it is so far.) People with IBM machines need not
apply.
