I am trying to find an algorithm that will hyphenate English text. Any help at all will be welcome. I have heard about a professor at Stanford that has developed such an algorithm, but do not know how to get in touch with him. Thanks for the help. David Corbin .

Read ``The TeXBook'' by Donald E. Knuth. It is published by Addison-Wesley. You should be able to find one in a university bookstore. One of the appendicies has details about the hyphenation algorithm used in TeX. A sophistocated algorithm for hyphenation is included in the TeX program, or Computers and Typesetting, Volume B by Donald E. Knuth. The algorithm was actually developed by a Stanford Ph.D student, Frank M. Liang. It is not limited to English, either.
